About Us

From Project Drawdown’s initial collaborative research project on the most substantive solutions to reverse global warming, and subsequent worldwide interest in adopting drawdown as a framework for local and national action, comes Drawdown Australia. An initiative to build a uniquely broad and inclusive movement for reversing global warming in Australia, by sharing an inspiring comprehensive narrative about the threats, solutions and opportunities.

What Is Project Drawdown

Drawdown in the context of climate is that point in time at which the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases peaks and begins to decline on a year-to-year basis. Project Drawdown is a US nonprofit organisation, founded in 2013, that wants to make drawdown a key goal for humanity and encourage action to achieve it.

Drawdown - a global project

Drawdown began as an idea, but grew to be an international phenomenon. Beyond an international agreement to limit rising global temperatures, and beyond sustainable business practices lies Drawdown, a global collaborative movement, rooted at the community level, working together and looking forward toward a regeneration of our world.

Drawdown - the book

Drawdown maps, measures, models, and describes the 100 most substantive solutions to global warming. The goal of the research that informs Drawdown is to determine if we can reverse the buildup of atmospheric carbon within thirty years. All solutions modeled are already in place, well understood and analyzed based on peer-reviewed science.

Why Drawdown Australia?

The objective of Drawdown Australia is to engage and inspire all sectors of the Australian community with a shared agenda and narrative for reversing global warming. Drawdown Australia will be a unifying education and advocacy hub, facilitating cross-sector collaboration to better unite the actions of researchers, activists, everyday citizens, business-leaders, policymakers and governments at all levels.

The Drawdown Australia initiative begins with replicating and evolving the global Drawdown project in the Australian context. A collaborative project of dozens of leading experts to quantify how an agenda of 100 substantive solutions can roll back Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Leveraging this core agenda, the Drawdown Australia initiative will inspire, empower and sustain individual and collective action from all sectors of Australian society, to build a broad movement that creates the social climate for more urgent action on climate change.

Drawdown Australia joins a host of Drawdown “hubs” forming in the United States, Europe and Canada, further expanding the global Drawdown coalition to reverse global warming.
